Artivism @ Bezalel/ Yaffo 23, Jerusalem

Do art and activism mix? Bezalel/Yaffo 23 will be hosting a panel of artist/activists on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 18:00. Two international art groups who merge contemporary art with political activism will be presented: Group Etcetera (Argentina & Chile) and Femen (UKR).
The conference, part of the Middle East Europe exhibition, will be moderated by political artist, curator and filmmaker Tamara Moyzes (CZ). Complete details are available in English on the Bezalel/Yaffo 23 blog.

“It’s Alive! # 2″ @ CCA

“It’s Alive! #2” – the second in a new series of live art events will take place at the Center for Contemporary Art (CCA) on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 19:30.  Curated by Maayan Sheleff, each evening will be composed of several multidisciplinary works, creating an experience and experimental space for artists and audience.

Fuerza Bruta in Tel Aviv

The key to Fuerza Bruta, Diqui James and Gaby Kerpel’s new show, is getting involved. This is not a performance where the audience sits back and stares. Taking place in a giant tent at the Tel Aviv Exhibition Grounds, it’s a standing show, with most of the action taking place either just above eye level (short people are at a disadvantage), or way up high. Michôd’s Animal Kingdom Now Showing in Israel

Australian Writer-director David Michôd’s film Animal Kingdom, screened at the 2010 Haifa International Film Festival, is currently showing in theatres. A close look at a family entrenched in a life of crime, Midnight East’s Shlomo Porat says: “Animal Kingdom rarely takes a wrong step, and is the most perfectly tempered combination of writing, acting, pacing, and shooting around at the moment. Pianist Evgeny Kissin Launches World Tour in Jerusalem

World renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin will come to Israel for a single performance dedicated to the works of Frantz Liszt, marking the composer’s 200th birthday. The concert will take place on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Binyanei Hauma – the Jerusalem International Convention Center.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet of Canada to Perform in Israel

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet of Canada comes to Israel in October as part of Tel Aviv Dance 2010, for a series of seven performances, including Jerusalem and Haifa. The company will present a program of two very different works: Carmina Burana by internationally acclaimed choreographer Mauricio Wainrot and In Tandem choreographed by Peter Quanz, an emerging young choreographer.

Ophir Awards Ceremony Scheduled for September 21, 2010

The Ophir Awards ceremony will take place on September 21, 2010 at the Jerusalem Theatre, and will be broadcast the same night on Channel 1, at 21:30. This year, for the first time, the program will also be broadcast in HD format, on 511.
Prizes are awarded in 14 categories: 13 for feature films and one prize is awarded for Best Documentary. In light of the abundance of quality documentaries and the growing interest in this genre, the imbalance in focus is something that should be reconsidered in this writer’s opinion.

Holon’s Operatic Purim Parade

 
It won’t rain on this parade!
The traditional Adloyada parade will take place on Shushan Purim – Monday, March 1 in Holon. The great figures of the opera – Rossini’s Cinderella, Verdi’s Aida and Mozart’s Magic Flute – will join nearly 4,000 dancers, musicians, acrobats, drummers and clowns in this larger than life celebration of the Israeli Opera’s 25th anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the city of Holon.
