Annual Samuel Beckett Lecture 2012 – TAU

Sarah Jane Scaife, Dublin Actor, Director and Scholar, M.Phil., will give the Annual Samuel Beckett Lecture at Tel Aviv University on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 16:30, in the presence of  H.E. Breifne O’Reilly, Ambassador of Ireland.

The annual event is sponsored by the Embassy of Ireland and Tel Aviv University Department of Theatre Arts and is free and open to the public.  Prof. Hannah Naveh, Dean of the Faculty of the Arts; Prof. Gad Kaynar, Chair, Dept. of Theatre Arts; Prof. Linda Ben-Zvi, Beckett Society of Israel, Dept of Theatre Arts will open the evening.

Ms. Scaife will present “Considering the Universal in Samuel Beckett’s Drama.” Ms. Scaife has given workshops around the world on performing Beckett, focusing on how he employs the body and performance sites to express his artistic and philosophical concerns. Her talk will be illustrated by film clips and images of her Beckett work in England, Scotland, Georgia, Mongolia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, and Greece.

The lecture will take place in Room 206A, Mexico Building and will be followed by light refreshments. Pedestrian entrance to the University is through Gate 8 on Haim Levanon Street.
