ein li makom cover

Long after midnight, in that let’s-not-do-this gray hour when existential despair and individual angst swell into lush electronic sound, that’s where you’ll find Vaadat Charigim’s Ein Li Makom. Loosely translated from Hebrew as “there’s no place for me in this world,” it’s a refusal to cooperate worthy of a shoegazing Bartleby the Scribner, layered in guitars. Simple and plaintive as a folk lament, pulsing with post punk insistence, this angry little song gets under my skin. In a good way.

Vaadat Charigim (Juval Haring, Dan Bloch, Yuval Guttman) are definitely making their mark internationally – so who says you have to sing in English to be heard? Still, for all you eager listeners, some paraphrasing – as opposed to a real translation that takes rhyme and sound into account (forgive me band members):

don’t want to be realistic/don’t want to realize my potential/
something screams within me/time is the murderer/something screams within me
there’s no place for me in this world
don’t want to be realistic/don’t want to make you proud/
fall from a tall tree/don’t want to hear/don’t want to touch
there’s no place for me in this world

Vaadat Charigim will be releasing their new album soon, follow their exploits on facebook.
