Musrara Mix, the international multidisciplinary arts festival will take place for three days, from Tuesday, May 24th – Thursday, May 26th, from 19:00 – 23:00 each evening. Featuring art exhibits, installations, performance art and music shows, one of the unique aspects of this festival is the collaboration between the college and its environs, with events taking place throughout the neighborhood. I’ve attended festivals in past years, and found it fun to roam freely amidst the music, exhibitions and installations.

Bio-art will be the focus of this year’s festival, featuring works by about 40 local and international artists, as well as students of Musrara The Naggar School of Art. The term ‘translocation’ is borrowed from genetics, describing a phenomenon in which an entire gene segment is switched between two different chromosomes. This genetic mutation is fairly common in humans, and typically not dangerous. Some of the participating works expand the idea of translocation to refer to biological ideas transferred to non-scientific spaces, others were developed in labs, or employed research methods of science to create art; some were developed in collaboration with scientists. Many of the artists will be present at the festival, offering opportunities for discussion, as well as lectures and workshops.

Admission is free to all exhibits and events, except for the opening night performance of Victoria Hanna with Mariana Sadovska and Rea Mochiach. The full program and additional information is available in English, on the Musrara Mix website.
