Paradize, the latest audacious creation from the wild imagination of Clipa Theatre, will premiere on Thursday, November 4, 2010.

The company announces that the grand spectacle of Paradize would no doubt transport audiences into a wondrous world of fantastic visions – were they able to see it. But in this show, the audience is seated backstage, with glimpses of action behind the scenes: quick costume changes, frantic actors, power plays, complex lighting and tech work, cables, crises and passions.

In this humorous take on a theatre company producing a play about the Garden of Eden, Clipa explores the fantasy and reality of theatre. The actors will play a double role – behind the scenes as actors, and in the play-within-a-play as the familiar characters in paradise: Adam, Eve and the snake.

Paradize marks the first time that Idit Herman and Dmitri Tyulpanov have invited a director from outside the company – Masha Nemirovsky. Nemirovsky, awarded the Jerusalem Prize for Theatre in 2002, has a Masters Degree from the Academy of Music Theatre and Film from St. Petersburg and worked as a director of the St. Petersburg Theatre Bouffe before immigrating to Israel in 1989. Her visually rich, expressive stage language can be seen in her work with Ish Theatre (Oddyseus Chaoticus, One and a Half), and stage works such as Farenheim, co-directed with Elit Weber.

Paradize is performed by Clipa Theatre members: Idit Herman, Dmitiri Tyulpanov, Zvi Peterkowsky, Oded Zadok and Yonatan Kunda. Dramaturg: Masha Nemirovsky. Set design: Dmitri Tyulpanov. Costumes: Idit Herman. Lighting: Uri Morag. Sound: Yonatan Kunda.

Performances will take place Thursday, November 4 and Saturday, November 6 at 20:30. Clipa Theatre, 38 Harakevet Street, Tel Aviv. Tickets are 90 NIS/70 NIS (students, soldiers, seniors), to reserve call: 03-6879219. Additional information can be found on the Clipa Theatre site.
