Science Café presents a talk by Dr. Flora Vincent, Postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science, on Plankton, the New Frontier. The talk will take place on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 19:30 at the Polly Bar, 60 Rothschild Avenue, Tel Aviv. The talk will be in English. Admission is free.

Dr. Flora Vincent received her Ph.D from the Biology Institute of the École normalae supérieure (CNRS/ENS/Inserm). Her research is in marine microbiology, working with data from the Tara Oceans project, focusing on diatoms, a diverse and ecologically important group of phytoplankton.

The Tara Oceans Expedition, led by Eric Karsenti and Etienne Bourgois, set out in 2009 to study plankton ecosystems in the world’s oceans. The expedition sailed from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic via the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, the Arctic and the Antarctic, spending 938 days at sea. An international team of scientists is currently analyzing the abundant data: a total of 35,000 samples collected from over 210 ocean stations.

The Science Café is hosted by the French Institute of Tel Aviv.
