Salty, Sour, Sweet and Hot \u2013 an exhibit of children\u2019s book illustrations on the always popular theme of food will open on April 12, 2011 at 19:00 at the Bezalel Gallery at Yafo 23, the Central Post Office Building, Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

The exhibit, presented by the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design, Jerusalem Department of Visual Communications, will show the work of students of illustration from leading academies of four different countries: Korea, Germany, Bulgaria and Israel.<\/p>\n

This is the second year the Department of Visual Communication at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem is taking part in this international project that incorporates four leading academies from around the world:
\n– Duksung Women’s University, South Korea
\n– National Academy of Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria
\n– Hochschule Muenster \/ Department of Design, Germany
\n– Bezalel Academy, Jerusalem, Israel<\/p>\n

Food provides a perspective on culture that almost everyone can relate to, and children\u2019s book illustrations call out the playful side of both artist and viewer. The project, which created a fascinating arena for the exchange of ideas and images amongst the different schools, has been exhibited to wide audiences in South Korea, Bulgaria and Germany and is now on display in Israel.<\/p>\n

Under the guidance of Rutu Modan in the Department of Visual Communications at Bezalel, the young illustrators dealt with the various stages of engaging with the genre of children\u2019s books. From the initial encounter with the text, through the explorations of character\u00a0 and stylization, the creation of an entire visual world, page division and the creation of a suitable sequence appropriate for a children\u2019s book.<\/p>\n
