Celebrating its 50th year, The Israel Festival<\/a> will begin on May 23, 2011 in Jerusalem\u2019s Kikar Zion with Strange Fruit \u2013 a dance company from Australia in an uplifting outdoor performance, free and open to the public. Performances will take place at 17:00 and 19:00 in the square. The Israel Festival has much more to offer with three straight weeks of performances by outstanding international and Israeli artists. The festival takes places from May 23, 2011 to June 18.6.2011 and offers something for everyone. The Jerusalem Season of Culture opens with \u201cWhat\u2019s On Your Mind\u201d an international philosophy festival will take place at Mishkenot Sha\u2019ananim from May 18 \u2013 20, 2011. Whatever else you decide to do next week, don\u2019t miss Musrara Mix \u2013 a magical, multi-disciplinary interaction between the arts school and its environment, that takes place throughout the Musrara neighborhood. Continuing the festive mood \u2013 DocAviv 2011<\/a> is going strong with a terrific line-up of films. Tonight \u2013 DocChallenge<\/a> will premiere this year\u2019s crop of very short docs (4 minutes) \u2013 written, shot & edited in only 5 days! The screening will take place at the Port of Tel Aviv at 20:00 \u2013 on the dock, FREE and open to the public. Prizewinners were announced last night<\/a>, and the festival continues with screenings through Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, ZOA and the Port of Tel Aviv. The intersection of the different media \u2013 animated films, drawings, prints, theatre models, sculptures and books in an excellently designed exhibit offers an opportunity to engage with the work of South African artist William Kentridge.<\/p>\n

THEATRE<\/strong> \u2013 May 18 – Hamlet, The Clown Prince \u2013 a guest production from India \u2013 Hamlet as seen through the eyes of a clown. Cameri Theatre, 20:30.
\nMay 18 \u2013 24 \u2013 The Human Scale, written and performed Lawrence Wright, and directed by Oskar Eustis, is a solo piece that explores the conflict in Gaza. Wright performs the piece, which originated in his article on Gaza in the New Yorker, \u201cCaptives: What Really Happened in the Israeli Attacks.\u201d The performance will take place in English, without translation into Hebrew. Wright\u2019s history of al-Qaeda, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9\/11 was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. His successful one-person play, \u201cMy Trip to al-Qaeda\u201d was made into a documentary film directed by Alex Gibney, and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2010.
