Rarely in modern times has a singular event so clearly transcended the hum-drum flow of history. However, despite the holy place we often choose to reserve for Woodstock, we mustn\u2019t blind ourselves: the festival was fraught with sex, drugs and rock n\u2019 rolling in the mud. Although this may have been instrumental in created the ethos surrounding Woodstock, it was seriously lacking in practicality. The decision to perform the music of artists that were not present at the original festival shows an important understanding of the audience, and stands in stark contrast to Dylan\u2019s recent concert in Israel where it was quite clear that pleasing the crowds was rather far from his mind.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13676\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13676\" style=\"width: 392px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/P1030561s.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13676\" title=\"P1030561s\" src=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/P1030561s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/P1030561s.jpg 392w, https:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/P1030561s-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13676\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Natan Galili\/Photo: Elior Dekel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Throughout the early evening the steady flow of visitors, many of them in tie-dyes, continued to fill the field. There were some groups of young people, but mostly families could be seen spreading blankets on the artificial grass turf of the stadium and tossing footballs and frisbees through the air. Next <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarediane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Clare Diane<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Graffiti<\/strong>, returning to the festival after last year\u2019s visit, played a variety of highlights from varying time periods. The field was filling up and people were rising to join the crowd that had gathered to dance near the stage. The party had begun.<br \/>\n<object width=\"560\" height=\"349\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/wrOth0eSR2o?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"560\" height=\"349\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/wrOth0eSR2o?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><br \/>\n<strong>Libi and the Flash<\/strong> played hits by Joe Cocker, Cream and Jefferson Airplane, but their rendition of Shir Ha\u2019Ma\u2019alot undoubtedly stands out. They were followed by <strong>Long Time Gone<\/strong>, who departed from their usual CSNY repertoire to play another often acronymed band that performed at Woodstock, Creedence Clearwater Revival.<\/p>\n<p>The sun had long since set, but the audience showed no signs of slowing down and the excitement was mounting. She continued with the beloved \u2018Mercedes-Benz\u2019 a-cappella, including the audience in one verse. She then proceeded to invite<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/TREE\/78938316836?ref=ts&amp;sk=app_146165218790039#!\/pages\/TREE\/78938316836?sk=info\" target=\"_blank\">Tree <\/a><\/strong>to join her on stage for Joni Mitchell\u2019s Woodstock.<br \/>\n<object width=\"560\" height=\"349\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/neo8jhiBfZ4?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"560\" height=\"349\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/neo8jhiBfZ4?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><br \/>\nAs the final chords reverberated through the air, all present were intensely aware of the power unique to only a truly magical performance, Yael crediting the special atmosphere that Tree generate when playing. It is harder still to string together a line-up such as this, in a natural order, with each performer seemingly born to play each note struck.
