Nisui Kelim #8 \u2013 Testing Tools \u2013 will take place from August 16 \u2013 18, 2011, in two new venues. Multidisciplinary experimental performances will fill every available space in Beit Tami \u2013 stairs, hallways, balconies, basement and the garden in front facing Shenkin Street; while artwork and installations will be on display at Mazeh 9, the Tel Aviv Municipality\u2019s new venue for young people. Gil Alon is artistic director for Testing Tools, and Arie Berkowitz is the curator for visual arts.<\/p>\n

Initiated by the Tel Aviv Municipality Department of Community, Youth and Sport, Nisui Kelim was created to encourage independent artists in the development of new, experimental works that extend the boundaries of genre. This year, 30 performances and 20 art works will be presented as part of Nisui Kelim. For the performers, creators and artists Testing Tools offers the opportunity to do just that \u2013 apply their knowledge and skills to try out new ideas and explore new directions. For the audience, Testing Tools is a carnival of experiences in dance, theatre, music, art, and film.<\/p>\n

In addition to Testing Tools in Tel Aviv, this year the performances will head north to the Galilee. The new Zikit Cultural Center, directed by Pablo Ariel, is located in the Tefen Industrial area and will host Testing Tools performances on weekends during the month of September.<\/p>\n

Performances include: Inside Information by Yaara Nirel and Yasmin Rotkofef \u2013 a video dance created from a mix of several cameras filming a duet from different points in the room; Daniel Hel in an alternative radio program that merges music, text, art, martial arts and nonsense; a jam session between a dancer, Shlomit Yaron and vocalists Hadas Gur and Neta Zilbiger; Kan Efshar Ledaber (You can talk here) performance art presented by Amir Sorek and Hana Stein, who not only let the audience have their say, but promise to listen; Heyot She\u2026(Since\u2026) by Michal Hober-Rothschild and Shelly Nahari, a duet between a blind and sighted dancer; TREEO presented by members of the Shabazi Circus \u2013 an acrobatic circus performance with a dancer, two musicians and four trees; Op. 1 by Maayan Yungman, puppet theatre for adults, Via Dolorosa Now, by Orto-Da Theatre, a visual street performance of four apes in search of God; Macbeth Cabaret by Danny Erlich, an operatic Macbeth as narrated by the witches; and much, much more\u2026<\/p>\n

Each performance is 30 minutes long, tickets are 20 NIS, and are offered at 2 for 30 NIS, or 8 for 100 NIS. Outdoor performances and the exhibit at Mazeh 9 are free.
