The Baron comes to the Israeli Opera on January 13, 2012 as jazz pianist Kenny Barron<\/a> arrives with the members of his Super Piano Trio: Kiyoshi Kitagawa on bass and Jonathan Blake on drums. Performing originals, jazz standards and pieces by jazz pianists who have influenced Barron and his music, it promises to be a magical evening.<\/p>\n

Barron began playing professionally as a teenager with Mel Melvin\u2019s orchestra in Philadelphia, which also featured his brother Bill, the late tenor saxophonist. Moving to New York at age 19, Barron played with Roy Haynes, Lee Morgan and James Moody, and joined Dizzy Gillespie\u2019s band in 1962. Developing an academic career alongside his prolific musical career, Barron was a professor of music at Rutgers University and mentor to young musicians such as David Sanchez, Terence Blanchard and Regina Bell. Barron recorded his first album as a leader, \u201cSunset to Dawn\u201d in 1974, and has made over 40 recordings since, with nine Grammy nominations.
