Moving to New York at age 19, Barron played with Roy Haynes, Lee Morgan and James Moody, and joined Dizzy Gillespie\u2019s band in 1962. Developing an academic career alongside his prolific musical career, Barron was a professor of music at Rutgers University and mentor to young musicians such as David Sanchez, Terence Blanchard and Regina Bell.
