Screenwriter extraordinaire Jean-Claude Carri\u00e8re will arrive in Israel as the guest of the Sam Spiegel School of Film and Television, Jerusalem from January 9 \u2013 11, 2012. Carri\u00e8re will conduct master classes in screenwriting in the context of the school\u2019s \u201cGreat Masters\u201d program. The program gives students the opportunity to learn from internationally renowned members of the film industry such as past visitors David Lynch, Wim Wenders<\/a> and Theo Angelopoulous.<\/p>\n

Carri\u00e8re\u2019s prolific career spans several decades, with over 110 film and television screenplays that have garnered critical acclaim and box office success. He has worked with several illustrious directors throughout his career, among them: Jean-Luc Godard, Milos Forman, Louis Malle, Volker Schl\u00f6ndorff, Nagisa Oshima as well as theatre director Peter Brook. Carri\u00e8re\u2019s close collaboration with Luis Bu\u00f1uel inscribed a chapter in film history with: Diary of a Chambermaid<\/em> (1964); Belle de Jour<\/em> (1967); The Milky Way<\/em> (1969); The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie<\/em> (1972); The Phantom of Liberty<\/em> (1974); and That Obscure Object of Desire<\/em> (1977).<\/p>\n

Carri\u00e8re wrote the screenplays for: The Tin Drum<\/em> (1979), The Return of Martin Guerre<\/em> (1982),\u00a0 Danton<\/em> (1983), The Unbearable Lightness of Being<\/em> (1988), Valmont<\/em> (1989). He co-wrote Max, Mon Amour<\/em> (1986) with director Nagisa Oshima<\/em>, and collaborated with Michael Haneke on the script of The White Ribbon<\/em>. In addition to screenplays, Carri\u00e8re has published a book on film: The Secret Language of Film<\/em> (Hebrew translation Am Oved 1996, English translation Pantheon 1994) and he was president of La F\u00e9mis, the French state film school.<\/p>\n

Carri\u00e8re will participate in a festive screening of That Obscure Object of Desir<\/em>e on January 9, 2012 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.
