Eco-friendly Purim fun in Ramat HaNegev \u2013 the students at the High School for Environmental Studies<\/a> in Sde Boker continue their tradition of environmentally aware Purim parades, with giant puppets made of recycled materials.<\/p>\n

The parade will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012. The 250 students at the school are responsible for all aspects of the parade from start to finish: ideas, design, planning and production of 20 colorful giant puppets, each about 3 \u2013 4 meters tall. The puppets are made of bottles, paper, irrigation hoses, and other items collected by the students.<\/p>\n

Each grade selects a theme, this year\u2019s themes include: sweets, the birth of Israel, Brazilian carnival and monkeys. Prizes are awarded for originality, creativity, technique, humor, choreography and other elements of the parade and its puppets. The results of their efforts are quite impressive!<\/p>\n

And the process is fun to watch too:

\nThe parade and puppets are a 15 year tradition, with about 5,000 people attending annually. In addition to the yearly parade, students at the high school engage in volunteer activities in the community and work to restore nature preserves in the area.<\/p>\n

The parade and fair will begin at 9:30 and continue until 12:00, but arriving early (9:00) is recommended. Parking is only permitted outside the community of Midreshet Sde Boker .<\/p>\n
