\u00a0Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC) has long engaged in an animated and energetic conversation with the world, performing the works of contemporary choreographers, such as: Jir\u00ed Kyli\u00e1n, Trey McIntyre, Harrison McEldowney and Ohad Naharin. The talented, versatile dancers have the ability to communicate in a variety of movement languages and styles, imbuing the choreography with their own unique presence.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s outgoing artistic director, Jim Vincent, extended the company\u2019s spirit of collaboration working with The Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pinhas Zuckerman, The National Orchestra of Ottawa and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The company has also performed with individual contemporary and jazz musicians.<\/p>\n
Founded in 1977 by dancer\/choreographer Lou Conte, who served as artistic director until the year 2000, the company includes 22 dancers in the main company, a junior company and runs a dance school named for Conte. With Jim Vincent\u2019s appointment as artistic director for the Netherlands Dance Theatre (NDT), Glenn Edgerton, who was artistic director of NDT from 1995 \u2013 2000, was chosen as the new artistic director for HSDC.<\/p>\n
The company will perform the following pieces in Israel:<\/p>\n
Bitter Suite \u2013\u00a0\u00a0 a new dance by Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo, set to music by Mendelssohn and Monteverdi, created for HSDC and first performed in October 2009.<\/p>\n
Slipstream \u2013 Jim Vincent\u2019s farewell dance for the company, set to Benjamin Britten\u2019s \u201cVariations on a Theme of Frank Bridge.\u201d The piece is a series of duets, short encounters between dancers, moving through different moods and variations. The term slipstream refers to the strong force of air behind a moving vehicle, with Vincent exploring the energy of a moving body within that space behind another moving body.<\/p>\n
