Experiments in the Techniques of Awakening<\/em>, presented by Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem and Bezalel, Yaffo 23\/Jerusalem opened last night, July 15, 2012. Performances, lectures, films and workshops will take place at the Bezalel Yaffo 23\/Jerusalem Gallery through August 4, 2012.<\/p>\n

From the press release:<\/p>\n

In a space designed by Michal Helfman, local and international guests will meet, lead workshops and conduct live performances on themes of physical, spiritual and social awakening.<\/p>\n

Participants will include: The Pearl Underground, Public Movement, Slavs and Tatars, The Secular Yeshiva, HaAf magazine, Refugee Support, Empty House, Dani Gal, Palstinema, and more.<\/p>\n

If we truly believe in art, then we must think of new ways of making art\u2019s methods of operation applicable to other fields. How to make art a training ground for a particular course of action? What are the current techniques for action, and what can art offer to the new global awakening?<\/p>\n

The exhibition, \u201cExperiments in the Techniques of Awakening\u201d, a misquote from Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project, treats non-knowing as a fertile ground for creation. Artists are good at not knowing things and making this state a platform for creative activity. Therefore, in volatile times of transition, we turn to art to provide the tools for playful experimentation, reflection and creation for the public to come.<\/p>\n

\nThe gallery will host the Secular Yeshiva. Days of study and lectures, sunrise tours and Hafla (festive meal). More details will be provided within the framework of the exhibition.<\/p>\n

\nContemporary Art in Israeli Society – An evening following the texts of Sarah Hinsky. Participants: Prof. Eva Illouz, Professor Shai Lavi, Dr. Roy Brand, Julia Parmanto, Sagit Mezamer.<\/p>\n

\nThe gallery will host the editors of the magazine HaAf (Nose Magazine). Launch event and workshop.<\/p>\n

\nIndependent mapping workshop using a kite and a digital camera, from the roof terrace of Jaffa 23 \/ An archive of political speeches by Dani Gal \/ Palstinema series, contemporary films from the Arab world \/ A lecture on refugeedom \/ Pot-luck dinner of foods from Sudan, Eritrea and Jerusalem.<\/p>\n
