Art lovers \u2013 time to dance your way through the streets, galleries and museums of Tel Aviv \u2013 the season begins! \u201cLoving Art Making Art\u201d the annual festive launch of the art season will take place this year from September 6 \u2013 8, 2012. Art galleries and museums will be open until 23:00 on Thursday, September 6th, this year with music and dance performances \u2013 all free and open to the public. Artists will open their studios to the public on September 7th & 8th from 11:00 \u2013 18:00.<\/p>\n

As you wander through the city, don\u2019t miss singer\/cellist Maya Belsitzman who will be performing at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art on Thursday, September 6th at 23:00 \u2013 entrance is FREE and open to the public, like all \u201cLoving Art\u201d events. Enjoy the museum (27 Shaul Hamelech Blvd) and then come to the foyer to hear Maya rock the cello with guests Sheila Ferber and Eran Zur and a repertoire that ranges from romantic pop-rock classics \u2013 \u201cJust the Way You Are\u201d to poet Yona Wollach\u2019s \u201cSex Aher\u201d and Cyndi Lauper\u2019s \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun\u201d \u2013 Yes!!<\/p>\n

In the spirit of embracing all the arts, in collaboration with the Israeli Choreographers Association<\/a>, this year\u2019s opening night events will feature dance performances taken out of their usual context and out into the open. Dance events will take place in two locations:<\/p>\n

Nimrod Freed\u2019s<\/strong> Peepdance<\/em> offers a very different perspective on dance: the audience peeks through small openings to watch the dancers perform inside an enclosed space. An unusual approach to dance that awakens the voyeur lurking within, provoking thoughts on the relationship between audience and performer.<\/p>\n

Haravakah<\/em> (the bachelorette) by Nadine Boomer<\/strong>. Inspired by the television reality show, 5 women dancers take on the roles of charming suitors, all wooing one bachelorette. Boomer\u2019s choreographic style is known for her lively and humorous approach to character, this one sounds like fun!<\/p>\n

Ezrat Nashim<\/em> by Dafi Altbeb<\/strong>. Let\u2019s hear it for women\u2019s power: seven pairs of strong hands, seven strong women \u2013 one for all and all for one. The title \u201cEzrat Nashim\u201d refers to the women\u2019s section in Orthodox Jewish synagogues, where women sit separately, usually behind a screen, wall or other barrier. The dance piece is a statement on women\u2019s power at a time when the exclusion of women is a volatile topic in Israeli current events.<\/p>\n

With Subtitles<\/em> by Ronit Ziv<\/strong>. A moving and intelligent commentary on identity and relationships, inspired by the choreographer\u2019s experiences in Tel Aviv.\u00a0 Ziv lived next door to a woman who earned her living as a prostitute; her relationship with her neighbor inspired this work. Justkatzit<\/em> by Anat Katz<\/strong> and Erez Maayan<\/strong>. A dance comedy. The dancers appeal to the audience to come to a benefit event, promising an evening of emotions and surprises.<\/p>\n

Everything<\/em> by Hillel Kogan<\/strong>.\u00a0 Dancer, choreographer, word-weaver, a versatile actor who can embody any role, Hillel Kogan can do just about anything and everything, and he does. In his outrageously entertaining solo work Everything<\/em> Kogan recreates and deconstructs 60 years of Israeli history, kinetic social criticism in white glitter. \u201cProvince<\/em>,\u201d the main exhibition of \u201cLoving Art Making Art,\u201d is an on-going multi-disciplinary work, curated by Leah Abir with associate curator Gilly Karjevsky, exploring art in the public space. The work will be exhibited in two locations: the Saraya compound in Jaffa, and the roof-top Einav Cultural Center (above Gan HaIr) on Ibn Gvirol Street. Participating artists include: Alona Rodeh, Ariel Efraim Ashbel, Tahel Frosh & Mati Shemoelof (Guerilla Tarbut), Hadas Ophrat, The Zimmer, Tamir Lichtenbeg, Maya Dunietz, Meir Tati, Jaffa Project, Nevet Yitzhak, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 R\u00e9alist.<\/p>\n

\u201cLoving Art Making Art\u201d is initiated and produced by the Arts and Performance Departments of the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality. Tzilit Ben Nevet is the Head of the Arts Department and Edna Moshenson is the curatorial advisor for the event, with Maayan Nevo coordinating the plastic arts.<\/p>\n
