A student of architecture at the time, Gitai was called to reserve duty during the war as part of a helicopter rescue team sent to administer first aid to soldiers. He recorded his reserve duty experiences on 8mm footage, On October 11, 1973 \u2013 Gitai\u2019s 23rd birthday \u2013 the helicopter was shot down by a Syrian missile on the Golan Heights.
