Calexico<\/a> returns to Israel with performances at the Barby in Tel Aviv on February 28th and March 1st, launching their new album Algiers, recorded in New Orleans. Just listen and fall in love:

\nNamed for the border town of Calexico, California, the band’s origins go back to the 90s when John Convertino and Joe Burns first began playing together with Howe Gelb in Giant Sand, going through several transitions and transformations (Friends of Dean Martinez) before forming Calexico. The band’s current members are: Joey Burns \u2013 vocals, guitars, bass, cello, piano, keyboards, accordion, percussion, vibraphone; John Convertino \u2013 drums, percussion, piano, vibraphone; Paul Niehaus \u2013 steel guitar, guitars; Jacob Valenzuela \u2013 trumpet, keyboards, vibraphone, vocals; Martin Wenk \u2013 trumpet, guitar, keyboards, accordion, glockenspiel, vibraphone (occasionally harmonica & French horn); Volker Zander \u2013 standup bass, electric bass.<\/p>\n

The unique Southwestern indie-sound of Calexico merges country, Latin, jazz and rock influences. The new album moves easily from the syncopated romantic rhythms of the title song Algiers<\/em> and No Te Vayas<\/em>, to the gentle darkness of Hush<\/em>, and rock ballads Epic<\/em> and Maybe on Monday<\/em>.

\nPopularity soaring, and Algiers already making waves, the band made their unique imprint some terrific tracks for I’m Not There, Todd Hayne’s fictional bio-pic based on the legend of Bob Dylan.
