Serge Toubiana, the Director General of the Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que fran\u00e7aise has curated a selection of 8 French films\u00a0 to be shown in honor of the Tel Aviv Cinematheque’s 40th anniversary, from October 30 – November 12, 2013, with screenings at the Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa cinematheques.<\/p>\n

\"Van<\/a>
Van Gogh, directed by Maurice Pialat<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The tribute will open with Maurice Pialat’s film Van Gogh<\/em> (1991), which focuses on the final months of the artist’s life, observing the human aspect of the artist. Whilst in Israel, M. Toubiana will conduct a master class on Maurice Pialat at the Sam Spiegel School of Film and Television on October 31, 2013.<\/p>\n

The films selected span a wide range of years and styles, from Marcel Carn\u00e9’s Quai des brumes<\/em> (1938), one of the first films to be described as “film noir,” to\u00a0 C\u00e9line Sciamma’s Tomboy<\/em> (2011), which sensitively follows the experiences of young Laure, who takes advantage of her family’s move to\u00a0 a new neighborhood to re-invent herself as a boy.<\/p>\n
