Time to raise the curtain on dance! Curtain Up 2013, contemporary dance showcase for independent choreographers, will open on November 14, 2013, the under the artistic direction of Ronit Ziv and Yoram Karmi. The choreographers featured in Curtain Up 2013 are: Idan Sharabi, Michael Getman, Nadar Rosano, Rachel Erdos, Odelia Kuperberg, Efrat Rubin, Gil Carlos Harush and Roy Assaf.<\/p>\n

The dance scene in Israel is known for its vitality and fecundity. At a press meeting held yesterday at the Suzanne Dellal Centre, Karmi said that the 8 choreographers selected to participate in the program were chosen from among 45 candidates, adding that “all the candidates displayed an astonishing level of accomplishment and purpose.” The two artistic directors work well in tandem, each working with four choreographers on an individual basis, as well as jointly working with the cohort of choreographers as a group. Ziv, explained that the process is twofold: “there is the part that everyone sees, the process that results in a performance. Yet there is also the process that takes place beneath the surface, the thoughts, emotions, and experience of each individual developing a new work.” The focus this year was to bring to light those inner processes and encourage dialogue and reflection through joint workshops on dramaturgy, music and set design, as well as a sense of community among the group of choreographers, all creating in parallel.<\/p>\n
