Les Ballets Jazz de Montr\u00e9al will come to Israel in February with a diverse program of works:

\nHarry by Barak Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n

Israeli-American choreographer Barak Marshall, known for his energetic ethnic-contemporary fusion, created this work for the BJM dancers. The main character Harry struggles with conflicts internal and external; relating to culture, gender, physical and existential obstacles. Marshall has in recent years choreographed two hugely successful works in Israel, Monger<\/em> and Rooster<\/em>; two of the Israeli dancers he’s worked with, Inbar Nemirovsky and Osnat Kelner, assisted Marshall in working on Harry with the BJM dancers.<\/p>\n

Closer by Benjamin Millepied<\/strong><\/p>\n

Millepied first created this dance in 2006 for C\u00e9line Cassone and S\u00e9bastien Marcovici (principal dancer with the New York City Ballet), set to Mad Rush by Philip Glass. For the Israeli tour,\u00a0 C\u00e9line Cassone will be performing with Alexander Hille. Millipied is popularly known for his choreography and dancing in the film Black Swan<\/em>, and his subsequent marriage to Natalie Portman. His projects are many and varied: he has created dances for City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, his company Danses Concertantes, and others; his dancing (along with other New York City Ballet dancers) was motion-captured for the film Barbie in the Nutcracker<\/em> (2001), he founded the L.A. Dance Project in 2011 and was named the new Director of Dance at the Paris Opera Ballet, starting in September 2014.<\/p>\n

Night Box<\/em> by Wen Wei Wang<\/strong><\/p>\n

Night Box<\/em> is inspired by the cityscape and urban night life, combining contemporary ballet with street dance. Lighting is a central element in this work, the choreographer worked with the Montreal design team UNTTLD. Wen Wei Wang on Night Box<\/em>: \u201cThis work is about people and everyday life through body language, energy, relationships and emotions, reflecting the world in which we are living. Many thanks to the dancers for their collaborative spirit and their generous contribution to the concept.\u201d<\/p>\n
