{"id":35738,"date":"2016-12-04T07:20:01","date_gmt":"2016-12-04T14:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/?p=35738"},"modified":"2017-05-04T14:41:13","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T21:41:13","slug":"jerusalem-baroque-orchestra-bach-buxtehude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/?p=35738","title":{"rendered":"Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra: Bach &#038; Buxtehude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>If the name Buxtehude is not familiar to you, you\u2019ll probably recognize one of his followers<\/em> &#8211; JS Bach.<\/p>\n<p>Both composers will be featured in the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra\u2019s next concert, which will be held on three separate days:\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1838626900\">Tuesday December 6<\/span>\u00a0at the Israel Conservatory in Tel Aviv,\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1838626901\">Thursday December 8<\/span>\u00a0at the YMCA in Jerusalem, and a morning concert on\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1838626902\">Saturday December 10<\/span>\u00a0at the Catholic Church in Mar Elias, Haifa.<\/p>\n<p>Dieterich Buxtehude was a Danish-German composer and organist of the seventeenth century. Bach admired Buxtehude so greatly that at one point he walked 250 miles to meet his idol and hear him play.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35739\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35739\" style=\"width: 347px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/anat_charny-347x520.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35739\" src=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/anat_charny-347x520.jpg\" alt=\"Anat Charny\" width=\"347\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/anat_charny-347x520.jpg 347w, https:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/anat_charny-347x520-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35739\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anat Charny<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Of Bach\u2019s enormous composition catalogue, the orchestra has chosen to perform the sixth Brandenburg Concerto, a cornerstone of baroque repertoire. Buxtehude\u2019s \u201cMembra Jesu nostri\u201d will complete the other half of the concert, featuring an excellent ensemble of singers:\u00a0Tal Ganor, Anat Czarny, Avital Dery, Hillel Sherman and Guy Pelc. David Shemer will conduct and Myrna Herzog will direct Ensemble Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>The Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra\u2019s last concert left us practically floating, so we are excitedly awaiting this upcoming event.
