The event took place on Sunday evening, April 11 at ZOA House in Tel Aviv, and Monday morning, April 12 at the Jerusalem Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>The actors of the Yiddishpiel Theatre, primarily from the ensemble of young actors, performed in Yiddish (with Hebrew translation), scenes from plays, songs and satiric sketches written by residents of the Warsaw Ghetto. Cultural events in the ghetto took place in improvised venues \u2013 such as large apartments where Jews would come in secret to hear Klezmer music, cabaret and theatre performances. Among the works presented by the Yiddishpiel Theatre: scenes from \u201c<em>Job<\/em>\u201d by Itzhak Katzenelson (1886 \u2013 1944), the\u00a0operetta \u201c<em>Bar Kokhba<\/em>\u201d by Abraham Goldfadn (1840 \u2013 1908), \u201c<em>The Village Youth<\/em>\u201d by Leon Kobrin (1873 \u2013 1946), and review sketches of life in the ghetto written by Vladislav Shlengel, poet of the Warsaw Ghetto.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4380\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4380\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/telavivmayorronhuldaiapril112010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4380 \" title=\"telavivmayorronhuldaiapril112010\" src=\"http:\/\/www.midnighteast.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/telavivmayorronhuldaiapril112010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"159\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mayor of Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai opened the ceremony, saying, \u201cThe survivors triumphed with their survival in the battle for the preservation of human dignity.\u00a0 They saw survival as their duty, to live and tell the story, to make their voices heard. \u2018I will not die, but live\u2019 and tell of the actions of the devil \u2013 that is the message.\u201d The ceremony was arranged and directed by Moty Averbuch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Yiddishpiel Theatre and Shalom Aleichem House marked Holocaust Remembrance Day with a ceremony dedicated to the cultural life of the Warsaw Ghetto.
