The festival aims to enhance the public\u2019s awareness of disability and to challenge stereotypes through the presentation of the diversity of experience through film. The festival\u2019s rich and varied program will also include lectures, panel discussions, live performances and art exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>SHEKEL works to integrate people with special needs into all aspects of Israeli life, the festival has been created in collaboration with the Jerusalem Cinematheque, known for its commitment to encouraging openness and tolerance through the medium of film. The gala opening will take place on Tuesday at 17:30 with a reception and the opening of \u201cDowntown Collection\u201d an exhibit of photographs by Polish photographer Oiko Petersen, courtesy of the Polish Institute, and \u201cMaking Contact \u2013 Dialogue Through Art\u201d a joint project of SHEKEL and Bezalel. Opening ceremonies hosted by Haim Yavin will take place in the presence of Pepe Alalo, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem.
