Fashionistas, philosophers and bloggers will be gathering at the Jerusalem Cinematheque May 27 \u2013 29, 2010 for Film, Fashion & Philosophy<\/strong>, a festival that explores fashion, philosophy and the media from every angle, with a catwalk, panel discussions, lectures, exhibitions, parties and screening of films on the world of avant garde and classic fashion.<\/p>\n

During the opening event, Ruth Dayan will receive a lifetime achievement award for her contribution to promoting fashion and women\u2019s empowerment in Israel. The event will be accompanied by screening of footage from a documentary film about Maskit, directed by Dinah Zvi Riklis. Dayan found the fashion house Maskit, which showcased the talents and traditional crafts of underpriviledged women, returning earnings directly to the women who worked there.<\/p>\n

Students from the Jewelry & Fashion Department at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design will present a a fashion show in the Cinematheque garden on opening night. Over 100 creations \u2013 clothes, jewelry and shoes, that deal with the relationship between design and the human body will be featured on the catwalk. An after-show party with DJ Turtle + DJ Walter (Tabac, Tel Aviv) will give everyone a chance to show their moves.<\/p>\n

The festival will be accompanied by an exhibition of photographs from the Styleclicker blog of Munich-based photographer Gunnar H\u00e4mmerle, fashion clips and works by the students from Jewelry and Fashion Department at the Bezalel Academy.<\/p>\n

Among the films to be screened during the festival are: \u201cSeven Easy Pieces” by Marina Abramovic (USA 2007); an episode from “Fashion and People\u201d dealing with Jewish-orthodox dress, IDF-apparel and other facets of Israeli fashion (ARTE, 2008); short movies by Man Ray and Hans Richter which will be part of a panel discussion on semiotics and fashion; \u201cComrade Couture\u201c (Germany 2009) on the fashion designers from East Berlin; \u201cYves Saint Laurent \u2013 His Life and Times\u201d (France 2002) and \u201cA Single Man\u201d directed by fashion designer Tom Ford (USA 2009).<\/p>\n

A joint venture of the Goethe-Institut Jerusalem,<\/a> the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design<\/a>, the Jerusalem Cinematheque <\/a>and the Romain Gary French Cultural Center<\/a>, the festival will feature international participants fashion designer Maroussia Rebeca from the creative agency Andrea Crews, Moroccan designer Armine Benriouich \u2013 winner of the audience award at Createurope Berlin 2009, and the German fashion blogger Gunnar H\u00e4mmerle. Israeli participants include Einat Leader, Prof. Vered Kaminski, Claudette Zorea, Yael Taragan and Joseph Farkash from the Jewelry and Fashion Department at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Gian Franco Gentile from the Cultural Office at the Embassy of Italy and Eyal De Leeuw from \u201cha-gar\u00e7onni\u00e8re\u201d blog.<\/p>\n
