Animix, the annual Israeli International Animation, Comics, & Caricature Festival will take place this year from August 4 \u2013 8, 2026, at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. Now in its 26th<\/sup> edition, the festival showcases a diverse array of outstanding local and international animation, provides a platform for an emerging generation of cartoonists and animators, reflects and responds to the complex reality in Israel. The 25th Knesset\/Image: Engelmayer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Esteemed Israeli illustrator, animator, cartoonist and lecturer Dovi Keich will be honored at the festival. Author of the successful comics Arthur, Blu & Max books series for children, Keich is a leading creator in animation and comics for children and youth in Israel, and a lecturer of animation and illustration in academia.<\/p>\n

Moroccan cartoonist and caricaturist Saad Jalal will be a guest of the festival and will give a talk on the role of caricaturists in an age of smartphones, fake news and artificial intelligence, accompanied by his live action drawings. Jalal has published caricatures in the Moroccan press for over twenty years, and has curated several exhibitions dedicated to human rights, and in particular \u2013 women\u2019s rights in Morocco. He is the author of a book depicting the problems and difficulties of Moroccan citizens through pointed and sarcastic caricatures. The talk will take place on Tuesday, August 4th<\/sup> at 18:00 in Cinema 5.<\/p>\n

American producer Fonda Snyder will come to Israel as a guest of the festival. Snyder is one of the producers of the animated film GOAT (2026) that tells the tale of a goat determined, despite his small size, to become the greatest of all time at roarball, a sport that resembles basketball.<\/p>\n

Opening night on August 4th will feature Sergei Prokofiev\u2019s beloved classic Peter and the Wolf, accompanied by a live ensemble, conducted by Dudi Sofer. Suzie Templeton\u2019s stop-motion animated film Peter and the Wolf, which won the Academy Award for the Best Animated Short Film at the 80th Academy Awards, will be shown and Rivka Michaeli, actor and comedian par excellence, will tell the tale.<\/p>\n

As Israel is in a critical election year, several key events will be dedicated to the elections and related issues. There will be an exhibit of caricatures commenting on the battle of the Charedi Jews against the State of Israel, an exhibit that depicts the outgoing 25th Knesset, and a program of animated shorts and clips (primarily Israeli) made over the past decade that look the deteriorating political situation straight in the eye.<\/p>\n

There will be an homage to the Iranian artist, freedom fighter and author of the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi, who passed away in June 2026, at the age of 56. \u00a0Michel Kichka will moderate a conversation with professor Rutu Modan and journalist Nirit Anderman on Satrapi and her legacy.<\/p>\n

The closing event of the festival will feature Danni Bassan, soloist of T-Slam, in a show that connects lines and images to the familiar sounds of the Israeli soundtrack.<\/p>\n
