Choreographer Tao Ye and his company, The TAO Dance Theater, will perform in Israel for the first time with Weight X 3. They describe the evening as: “composed of three pieces, each of a slightly different form but all of a related style, choreographed over the course of a year. Rather than view this as a performance made up of three pieces, instead we hope the audience will see it as a reflection of our company’s experience this year. When we share our experience with the audience, each audience member will then have their own feelings about what they see, and this in turn will create a new story, one that brings the performance and the audience’s experience together, and thereby creates new meaning. No specific words can express the meaning of tonight’s performance. Rather, these pieces are permeated with our conceptions of “body” and physical practice. So what your eyes perceive is exactly what our hearts hope to express.” Choreography: Tao Ye; Dancers: Duan Ni, Wang Hao, Tao Ye.

Performances: May 26 & 27th, Suzanne Dellal.

A dance ensemble, a school, a philosophy, a passion – The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble returns to perform at Suzanne Dellal with Śriyah, bringing the Odissi dance tradition of India to the Israeli stage. Their last performance here two years ago was as “rich in symbolism, as it is in sensual lyricism. The dancers move with exquisite beauty, the hands as eloquent as the face, the eyes as much a part of the dance as the body’s movement.”

Performances: May 13 & 14, Suzanne Dellal as part of the Celebrating India in Israel Festival.

Avi Kaiser & Sergio Antonio: At Your Place

At Your Place is a site specific dance project created by choreographers Avi Kaiser and Sergio Antonio, performed in art galleries, private homes and studios. Kaiser and Antonio create an intimate relationship with the viewer, eliminating the distance of the stage. Each performance is unique, relating to the environment in which it takes place. Enjoy their wonderful gallery of photos from past performances here.

Performances: May 17 & 18, Suzanne Dellal, Studio A.
