The Israeli Music celebration is really something to celebrate with free concerts featuring music by Israeli composers will be performed throughout the country – in Haifa, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva, Jerusalem and Dimona – from October 1 – 5, 2011. Initiated and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Israeli Music Institute, the festival is entering its 14th year, with Dr. Michael Wolpe concluding six years as artistic director.

“Composer of the Year,” a new initiative of Dr. Wolpe and the Israeli Music Institute, will feature the works of a selected composer. Paul Ben Haim (1897 – 1984) has been chosen as the first composer to be showcased, and three of his works will be performed in the course of the Israeli Music Celebration concerts.

Opening and closing concerts will take place in the Jerusalem Theatre, opening with the IBA Symphony Orchestra and the Israeli Philarmonic Orchestra will close the festival. As in every year, the many generations and styles of Israeli composers will be represented in the five day festival of music. The Revolution Orchestra, with its unique combination of acoustic and electric instruments and interdisciplinary approach, will perform works composed for animated films.

All performances are free of charge, but advance reservation is required.
