Cléo de 5 à 7 – Tonight at the French Institute


The film series, « Paris or not Paris » continues tonight, March 15, 2011, with Cléo de 5 à 7, a film by Agnès Varda (1962, 90 min)at 19 :00, at the French Institute, 7 Rothschild Blvd. French with English subtitles). Following Cléo (Corinne Marchand) in almost ‘real time’ as she passes the time from 5 to 7 (the film is about an hour and a half long) waiting for the results of medical tests while contemplating mortality and the meaning of existence, the film includes cameos by Jean-Luc Godard, Anna Karina, Eddie Constantine and Jean-Claude Brialy in a silent film-within-the film, and Michel Legrand (who composed the score) as ‘Bob the pianist.’ With Corinne Marchand, Antoine Bourseiller, Dominique Davray, and Michel Legrand.
