Tel Aviv Museum’s Hot Jazz series continues into February with its fourth installment of intercultural musical connections. On a trip to Johannesburg a few years back, saxophonist Amikam Kimelman and pianist Mike del Ferro met and made way for the unique, exotic musical creativity they will be performing in Israel next month. Hailing from Holland, Mike del Ferro is a highly acclaimed composer, pianist and musical arranger. An extensive world traveler and diverse musical virtuoso, del Ferro’s musical culture is a constant medley of new sounds, collaborative genres and interspersed improvisation.

Del Ferro’s achievements – which include numerous prices and recognitions from jazz festivals worldwide – have recently culminated in the signing of a ten-disk contract named “The Journey”, taken from collaborations with musicians from all around the world.

Kimelman, as well as being an administrator and teacher at Rimon School of Jazz ad Contemporary Music (perhaps the most prestigious music school in Israel), wears many additional hats in the music industry. As world-class saxophonist, composer, and arranger, Kimelman leads his own quintet, ‘The Human Factory’, which has performed in jazz festivals ranging from Africa to Europe. As an educator, he is the Music Director of The Jazz Orchestra and teaches arranging, harmony, improvisation and saxophone at Rimon.

Joining them for their Hot Jazz performance will be Simon Star on bass and Eitan Itzovitch on drums. On the program – arias from operas: Carmen, Turandot, Tosca, and more. Catch the ensemble between February 4-9 in the following locations:
