Welcome to The Stage

I first started acting on a whim, during the summer between my Junior and Senior year of high school. I signed up for a short acting camp and fell head over heels in love. In the 5 years since then, I’ve been searching for a performance outlet that will feel right – in English and in the Tel-Aviv area. I finally feel like I’ve found one, while helping to create it, in The Stage.

This past Monday, the 25th, was the official kick-off meeting for The Stage, at Mazeh 9. We started with acting games, run by Adaya Turkia. My personal favorite was “What are you doing?”, a game where the first person mimes an action, and when asked by the next person what they’re doing, they have to give a completely unrelated answer, which the second person then has to act out. This results in people miming amusing behaviors like planting a secret garden, or shaving another person’s leg. It’s also an interesting opportunity to figure out how to mime behaviors you’ve never really thought of before.

After the games, we had official announcements, about who we are – an English speaking performance art community – and what we are doing. Now I get to look forward to auditions for The Vagina Monologues (December 12th 7pm-10pm and 13th 9am-12pm), and the show itself (February 8th, 15th & 20th)! Plus, “taster” sessions, which will happen from December through February, and will give a peek at the workshops coming in March.

Wondering how you can also get involved? You have almost unlimited options!

We’d love to have you come audition for The Vagina Monologues (all cast members must identify as female), and join us in behind the scenes roles (all genders welcome) . We look forward to seeing anyone and everyone at our taster sessions and workshops, and are happy to hear proposals from anyone who wants to run one. We’re also looking for a few specific positions – a Graphics Designer, Social Media/PR Guru, VP of Finance, Website Designer, Legal Counsel and Communications Director. We are open to any performance ideas and activities, come to the next meeting and join The Stage!
