The circus is coming to town! Cirque Éloize will be performing in Israel from October 20 – 26, 2014 with their show Cirkopolis at the Tel Aviv Center for the Performing Arts (TAPAC). Contemporary circus is an immensely popular art form, relying on compelling concepts as well as flawless technique, with the added benefit that they typically only involve animals of the human sort, so one can sit back and enjoy with good conscience. The traditional circus arts – juggling, acrobatics, Spanish web, spinning hoops, bouncy trampolines and feats of skill and daring are merged with dance, music and theatre to create a mesmerizing show.

In an artistic allusion to Fritz Lang’s classic film Metropolis, Cirkopolis sets the arts of the circus against the anonymity and alienation of the urban environment. The Cirque Éloize  site describes the performance: “giant gears and dark portals symbolize a mechanism that crushes individuality. Performing with an inventive stage design and accompanied by an original musical score and video projections, twelve acrobats and multidisciplinary artists revel against monotony, reinvent themselves and challenge the limits of the factory-city.”
