Cameri Theatre to Celebrate President Peres’ 87th Birthday

The Cameri Theatre will celebrate President Shimon Peres’ 87th birthday on Monday, August 16, at 20:00 with a special tribute. Landmark events in the President’s life, central to the history of Israel will be presented in song, dance and speech by a bevy of performing artists, writers and other guests, with Cameri actor Natan Datner moderating the evening. Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi will participate in the event, alongside representatives of combat units in the IDF, residents from the Negev and Galilee, and bereaved families.

An initiative of the Cameri Theatre Society of Friends, the program will include screenings of film clips and scenes from plays, and is produced by Avi Gez. Actress Lea Koenig will evoke the President’s childhood days with the Yiddish lullaby “Oyfen Pripetshik”, Avi Toledano will sing French chansons to symbolize the famous treaty between France and Israel, and Shai Gross, who was six years old when he was among the hostages freed by the Entebbe Mission in 1976, will participate in the tribute.

Among the participating artists will be: Eyal Golan, Amos Oz, Riki Gal, Miri Mesika, Shiri Maymon, Yardena Arazi, Lea Koenig, Boaz Mauda, Avi Toledano, Kabra Kesey, Mahrata Baruch, Mira Awad, Hedva Amrani, Tomer Sharon, May Feingold, Amir Dadon and the Cameri Ensemble.
