Prof. Mordechai Omer, Tel Aviv Museum Director, Passes Away

Professor Mordechai Omer, Director and Chief Curator of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art passed away this morning, June 10, 2011. A leader on the Israeli art scene, Professor Omer was born in Haifa in 1941.

The curator of significant Israeli and international exhibitions, Professor Omer had been the Tel Aviv Museum’s director since 1995. In this capacity he followed through with his vision for the building of the new wing, to be launched in October 201, as a permanent exhibit space for Israeli art. In addition to his central role at the museum, Professor Omer was curator of the Tel Aviv University Art Gallery, which he founded in 1977, and leaves behind a rich legacy as a teacher, researcher and writer.

The funeral will take place this afternoon at 15:00 at 26 Shamgar Street in Romema, Jerusalem.
