Pretty much my favorite spheroid, the Earth will have its day in the sun tomorrow, as people round the planet mark Earth Day, April 22, 2013.

Raising awareness of our shared responsibility for the future of the planet and its resources, there will be an outdoor concert at Jaffa Port, broadcast on FM88 and IBA Reshet Gimel, from 20:00 – 23:00. Performing artists: Giraffes, MontiFiori, Shay Nobelman, Boaz Reinshreiber, Mercedes Band, Ellyott & more… the popular event is already over-booked, but I am guessing the music will be heard throughout the port…

Meanwhile, at Ariel Sharon Park, the erstwhile “Hiriya,” the Green Globes Awards will be given out, recognizing those who have made a significant contribution to our dear planet. The event will begin at 17:30 with a reception and the awards ceremony is scheduled to start at 18:30.  The project and awards are the initiative of Life and Environment, the umbrella organization founded in 1974, for the 130 environmental NGOs in Israel. Naor Yerushalmi, Life and Environment CEO, will open the ceremony. Check out the Green Globes facebook page  for more info and updates, transportation is available and will leave from the Arlozorov train station at 17:00 and 17:30 (near the SIXT car rental). Advance registration is required, please register online here.

Cool Globes in Jerusalem
Cool Globes in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, the Cool Globes exhibit is a visual reminder of the dangers threatening the planet we love to live on, with a positive spin. An initiative of the Cool Globes non-profit in Chicago, each globe shows a solution to the problems of climate change (solar panels, rooftop gardens). The globes have been brought to Jerusalem in conjunction with the First International Jerusalem Symposium on Green and Accessible Pilgrimage which will take place at the Jerusalem YMCA, from April 21 – 26, and will be on exhibit along the Alrov-Mamilla Esplanade near Jaffa Gate through the summer.

While not as spectacular, the small things we do (or refrain from doing) every day have a powerful cumulative impact on the earth, so: reuse, recycle and rejoice in this beautiful planet of ours! Happy Earth Day!
