The Tel Aviv Jazz Festival is back to take the city by storm – November 25 – 27, 2015 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque! It’s going to be an intense three days with 6 shows every night, and late night jamming after the shows at Kuli Alma.

The full program is available on the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival website. It is a very rich and diverse program of international and Israeli musicians, making it a challenge to pick favorites, but here are a few that caught my eye:

Danny Sanderson on guitar in a tribute to Rhythm & Blues, Motown & Soul with covers of The Temptations, Cream, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett & more… Thursday, November 26th at 22:30, Cin 3.

Omri Mor Trio hosts Shlomo Bar and Zohar Fresco – Omri Mor is a versatile and enchanting pianist who studied the music of Maghreb with the wonderful Nino Bitton. Look forward to the encounter between Andalusian music and jazz! Thursday, November 26th at 22:30

Ras Deshan Duo – Abate Berihun (vocals, saxophone) is one of my favorite Israeli singers/musicians – if you have not heard him yet, you really must! Performing with him is Yitzhak Yedid (piano), and this duo will be performing songs from their soon to be launched album – VeAhavta (and you loved). Ethiopian music meets blues & free jazz. Thursday, November 26th at 22:30, Cin 4

Shem Tov Levi and the Avi Lebovich Orchestra have recently released a joint album Behevra Tova (in good company) – and we will all be in good company with these great musicians! The show will take a new look at Shem Tov Levi’s 1981 album HitOrerut (awakening) with new arrangements for songs from his rich repertoire.  Wednesday, November 25th at 20:00, Cin 1.

The King – Ronnie Peterson and Efraim Shamir in a tribute to Blues Legend B. B. King
Both these Israeli bluesmen played with B. B. King, this will be an evening of pure pleasure – the King’s best loved songs. Friday, November 27th at 21:00, Cin 3.

Ahinoam Nini will host Maria Jopek – the Polish musician and singer has won many awards, represented her country in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Ale Jestem, and collaborated with Pat Metheny on an album in 2002. Nini and Anna connected thru Metheny, and the fusion should be fun! Wednesday, November 25th at 20:00, Hall 3.
Eli Degibri will be launching his new album Cliff Hangin’ with special guests Yoni Rechter and Shlomo Yidov (who also recorded 2 tracks on the album) and the Eli Degibri Quartet. This is the composer and saxophonist’s 7th album. Wednesday, November 25th at 22:30, Cin 3.

Tierney Sutton will perform an evening of songs from her Grammy nominated album After Blue – an homage to Joni Mitchell – Blue, Woodstock, Big Yellow Taxi and more… Wednesday, November 25th at 22:30, Cin 1.
