EXHIBITION: AND HAD CLAY MATERIAL, curated by Eran Ehrlich and Lena Dubinsky will open at the Bezalel, Yaffo 23 Jerusalem gallery on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 19:30. The exhibit is part of Jerusalem Design Week, taking place from December 4 – 9, 2011.

From the press release on the exhibition:

Human existence is faceted. Man, using his instincts and intelligence, has many ways to touch, feel and understand the world. The technological/digital revolution in which we live gives great emphasis and considerable attention to certain dimensions of human existence.

The extraordinary renewed wealth that this revolution brings to our lives, as well as the power of change and the extent of the changes in our lives, give us a sense that we are at the mouth of an era without an end. Watching closely, we can see that the scope of changes depends only on the part of human capabilities and ultimately may change to just part of the overall perception.

To seek and preserve other horizons of understanding and creativity, we must go back and look at the traditions of the pre-digital era. These traditions are not only industrious traditions of knowledge. They include thought and sensitivity unique to them. We can find an example of this in the creative traditions of glass and ceramics moving forward from antiquity to the present.

Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design’s Department of Ceramic and Glass aims to operate in all the options, to try and challenge the student to create a meeting with the technological world of tomorrow, while preserving traditions and thought for the future.

We chose to exhibit a rich variety of class action, which combines a special meeting between tradition and innovation.
