“Construct,” choreographer Tanja Liedtke’s final work, will be performed from October 29 – 31st, at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv and November 2 at Rappaport Hall in Haifa. A sharp, rigorous and curious look at the concept of “building”, “Construct” shifts between the physical act of building and the emotional construction of lives. Liedtke explores with wicked humor the curious connections between building a home, a life, a relationship and a future.

Tanja Liedtke was born in Stuttgart, Germany and moved to Madrid, Spain as a young child, where she began to study ballet. Deciding to focus on contemporary dance, she studied at the Rambert School, graduating in 1995. She then worked with the Australian Dance Theatre until 2003, when she returned to the UK and worked with DV8, under the artistic direction of choreographer Lloyd Newson. In 2007 Liedtke was appointed director of the Sydney Dance Company, but was accidentally killed in a road accident before she took the position.

“Construct” was commissioned by the London Southbank Centre and premiered there to critical acclaim in May 2007. The work won two Helpmann Awards in 2008: Best Choreography (Tanja Liedtke) and Best Male Dancer (Paul White), and three Australian Dance Awards in June 2009, including Outstanding Achievement in Choreography and Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance.
