Peridance Contemporary Dance Company of New York will arrive in Israel for a series of performances from June 29 – July 5, 2026, with shows in Haifa, Herzliya and Jerusalem. The company will perform works by founder and Artistic Director Igal Perry as well as works by internationally known choreographers Yin Yue, Marco Goeke and Mike Tyus. Peridance is the first international company to perform in Israel since the war, this tour will mark the company’s fourth visit to Israel.
Acclaimed choreographer Perry founded the Peridance Center for dance education in New York City in 1983, as well as the Peridance Contemporary Dance Company in 1984, and is considered one of the influential choreographers on the contemporary dance scene. Born in Israel, Perry began his dance career in the Karmon dance company and in 1968 began training at the Bat Dor studio and later joined the Batsheva Dance Company before eventually establishing an international career. His choreographies have been performed on leading international stages, including La Scala in Milan, the Lincoln Center in New York, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In addition to his work as a choreographer, Perry is a dance educator who, in addition to his own dance studio, has taught at Jacob’s Pillow and Juillard, and conducted guest workshops in Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Japan, Korea, and Israel.
The program will include works by four distinctive choreographers:
Just Above the Surface by Yin Yue, a work for eight dancers, based on FOCO TECHNIQUE, a contemporary form of dance movement rooted in Chinese classical and folk dance melded with the complex and diverse influences of the immigrant experience; Firebird by Marco Goeke; With You by Mike Tyus; and two works by Igal Perry – Meadows and Hora Mine.
Perry says of Hora Mine: “It is a work that connects me directly to Israel. The body, the music, and the movement memory I grew up on are distilled here. What is more natural than the hora – an Israeli folk dance – as inspiration for my work Hora Mine – at this time in my life.”
