Ushering in the coming holidays with music, Confederation House presents a performance of the Piyyut Ensemble hosting Neta Elkayam and Amit Hai Cohen, on Thursday, September 2, 2021. This performance will be the first in a new series launched by Confederation House, to take place in the larger space of the Zappa Club, enabling a wider audience to enjoy their original productions.

On the upcoming performance:*

A turbulent celebration of the sacred, of clapping, and of connecting and opening hearts to a new year. The new performance by the Piyyut Ensemble took shape in the hills of Jerusalem during the year of Corona and takes place in the space between the savage and the sacred, between the ecstatic and the sublime.

The Piyyut Ensemble is a collective consisting of 17 members belonging to three generations, specializing in original performance of Jewish sacred song in Hebrew and Arabic from different parts of North Africa. The ensemble has appeared tens of times in Israel and abroad, collaborating with, among others, Rabbi Haim Louk, Berry Sakharof, Victoria Hanna, Yossi Fein, Neta Elkayam, Ravid Kahalani, Shlomo Bar, Omer Avital and Avishai Cohen.

The ensemble’s first album was selected by Ofir Toubul of Kan Tarbut as one of the albums of the decade in the field of Israeli ethnic music. The ensemble’s artistic idiom seeks to be simultaneously rooted in tradition and daring in its originality, and is a product of in-depth study and research of traditional sources, along with an uncompromisingly contemporary musical and artistic exploration.
