Dancer, choreographer and cultural visionary, Yair Vardi died on May 25, 2025. Born in Kfar Blum, he became a member of the Batsheva Dance Company, and in the late 1970s moved to London to join Rambert Dance Company, and eventually, in 1983, established his own dance company in Newcastle. Yet it is in the third act that Vardi culled together his many talents to create the internationally renowned cultural institution that is Suzanne Dellal. Appointed as its inaugural director in 1988 and leading it for three decades until 2020, Vardi created a centre for dance that brought dance to the forefront of Israeli culture, fostering emerging young talents, and drawing the world’s finest dancers and choreographers to perform in Israel.

Over the past five years, Vardi met with his friend the actor, singer, and director Moshe Beker, recounting his life story to the camera. Over the course of this week, May 27 – 30, 2025, the video they created will be broadcast on Israeli television: Channel 23 on YES, Channel 0 on Hot, and on the Israeli Channels. The broadcast will include Yair Vardi’s monologue, and the program Ehad Plus Ehad (One Plus One) in which Beker interviews Vardi. It’s an opportunity to hear the legendary cultural visionary talk about his life, in his own words.
