The Cameri Theatre will produce the play Schitz, by Hanoch Levin, directed by Yagil Eliraz with original music by Adi Zisman for the Mara Theatre of Kiryat Shmona and the Upper Galilee. Mara Theatre has experienced financial difficulties exacerbated by the resignation of the theatre’s director Ofer Shemer, and the Cameri Theatre has taken on the play in an effort to assist the Mara Theatre.

Shitz was originally planned to premiere at the Mara Theatre but has been transferred to the Cameri Theatre and will be produced there with the creators from Mara Theatre and actors from the Cameri Theatre – Rami Baruch, Esti Kosovitzki, Alon Dahan and Irit Kaplan.

Shitz is a family comedy with Levin’s biting wit and songs. Fefechts and Tsesha have long dreamt of the day when their daughter Schprachtzi will find a husband. Cherches, a former officer in the military, is the man of her dreams, and he wants to marry Shprechtzi. Shprechtzi wants a ring and a baby, Tcharchess wants money and lots of it, and all that stands between their dreams and reality is one thing: Fefechts, the father. “A delicate matter as the non-existence of a father must be carefully arranged” Tcharchess tells Schprachtzi. The two begin to plan, and try to execute, and even manage to get Tsesha, the mother, into their dreams and schemes for a new life. But fate has other plans in store…
