The Port of Tel Aviv

This weekend in Tel Aviv, private and public buildings will be open to the general public with guided tours and lectures as part of “Houses from Within” – an international project to promote awareness of the built environment. Port of Tel Aviv and The Israel Accessibility Association have organized an event that reveals the ways in which the  encounter with the environment is different for each of us – because we are all different. On Saturday, May 21, 2011 there will be an “accessibility happening” at the sandbox complex on the northern deck, next to Hangar 20 at the Port of Tel Aviv from 10:00 – 14:00.

Free and open to the public, the event will enable visitors to experience going up a ramp in a wheelchair, walking through a crowd blindfolded, participate in sign language workshops and taste ice cream at a ‘blind tasting’ booth. It’s a fun way to open minds to the experiences of others and convey the importance of making public places accessible.
