Introdans will be performing in Israel for the first time at the Herzliya Performing Arts Center with a program that features Ed Wubbe’s choreography to Handel’s Messiah. The Netherlands dance company is based in Arnhem, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands is the company’s patroness, and it is considered to be one of the country’s three major dance companies.

Founded in 1971 by Hans Focking and Ton Wiggers, the company has always sought to bring dance to wider audiences, and as such presents both classical ballets and new works created by emerging choreographers. In addition to the dance company, Introdans places an emphasis on education, conducts workshops for youth and has a youth ensemble that performs throughout the country. Marking the company’s 40th anniversary in 2011, the filmmaker Bas Berhout made a documentary on the company director and founder Ton Wiggers, “Recognition at Last” reflecting his thought, feelings and experiences with Introdans.

The Program:

Wubbe’s dance set to Handel’s Messiah is a visually striking piece in black and white, merging the classical with the swirling skirts of Caribbean folk dance.

Fugaz, choreographed by Cayetano Soto with music by George Ivanovich performed by 8 dancers, was created by the Spanish choreographer as a tribute to his father.

La Morte del Cigno (The Dying Swan), choreographed by Mauro de Candia. In this work, the Italian choreographer has created a contemporary interpretation, a male solo, of the dance classic created for the legendary dancer Anna Pavlova by Mikhail Fokine  to Camille Saint-Saëns’s cello solo Le Cygne from Le Carnaval des Animaux in 1905.
