Opening the new dance season at the Israeli Opera/Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center will be Bodytraffic, the dance company from Los Angeles that has won the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Performing in Israel for the first time, the company will present one performance in Jerusalem and three in Tel Aviv, beginning October 14, 2015.

Founded in 2007 by artistic directors Lillian Barbeito and Tina Finkelman Berkett, Bodytraffic was named “the company of the future” by the Joyce Theater Foundation. The company will present a diverse program of four works, performed by ten dancers, among them the company’s artistic directors.

Bodytraffic presents:

And at midnight, the green bride, floated through the village square by Barak Marshall

Opening the evening will be Barak Marshall’s work. With a title reminiscent of a Chagall painting – the surreal bride in unexpected color floating above the village, and inspired by stories from his mother’s childhood in Aden, Yemen, Barak Marshall brings his expressive and intensely physical style to this work. The soundtrack resonates with Marshall’s eclectic ethnic mix, including songs of Yasmin Levy, Oy Division, The Barry Sisters, Boom Pam and works by Margalit Oved, Marshall’s mother, as well as texts composed by Marshall and Oved.

Dust by Hofesh Shechter

This work for six dancers explores the forces that drive people in contemporary society. Inspired by Shechter’s previous work Cult, Dust features a soundtrack composed by the choreographer himself.

Once again before you go by Victor Quijada

Quijada merges the aesthetics of contemporary dance with hip hop culture, in eloquent fusion.

O2Joy by Richard Siegal

Ballet based, jazz and hip hop infused, this piece is all about joy, and the joy of movement. Featuring a soundtrack of pure pleasure with American jazz standards by Glen Miller, Oscar Peterson, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
