Fancy a fling in Japan? The Maria Kong Dancers Company will be performing in Japan in March with fling – their first dance work which premiered in September 2009 at Nahmani Hall in Tel Aviv.

Maria Kong is a contemporary company of 4 dancers – Anderson Brass, Talia Landau, Leo Lerus and Yaara Moses – working in close collaboration, creating together in their Montefiore neighborhood studio in Tel Aviv. The intensity of their connection with one another and their engagement with dance and other disciplines – cinema, literature, philosophy and the visual arts, can be felt in their work. Maria Kong pursues their artistic vision through an ongoing dialogue, inviting the audience to share in the experience when the work comes out of the studio to the stage.

The energy emanating from the dancers in performance is mesmerizing. Enigmatic, beautiful and powerful, Maria Kong challenges the viewer to join them on their artistic journey. fling is a timeless work, with three characters – Federico, Gomiez and Angelica, and four dancers. The essence of the work and these characters is neither narrative nor explicit, but reveals itself in the tantalizing network of timing, movement, emotions and relationships.

The different elements of fling work together to create layers of sensation and emotion. Yael Barolsky on violin, costume design by Miki Avni, set design and technology research by Ori Ben Shabbat, lighting Felice Ross, original music and arrangements by Tal Ben-Ari, Neta Cohen-Shani on cello, mix by Ariel Tagar, Niv Hadas musical advisor and sound design by David Bell, dance and choreography by Maria Kong – the work of these exceptional artists creates an atmosphere charged with images and associations that transports the mind and stirs the emotions.

Maria Kong will perform fling in Sakura Hall in Tokyo on March 16, 2011 and at the Hyogo Performing Art Center near Osaka on March 19, 2011. This will be Maria Kong’s first tour abroad, made possible through the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
